the august tradition

well, it is august, and we all know what that means... one more month until school starts. that means, that summer homework needs to be done soon, or the last two weeks of summer vacation will not be a vacation. i have ap homework to do. right now, i feel that the only way i can fit in with this class is if 'AP' stands for "always procrastinating." i say its bad, i say i should stop, and i dont deny that i do it... but i do nothing about it. they say acceptance is the first step to fixing a problem... well, i need to know the second step because i have been stuck on the first for pretty much all my life. its quite ironic... i am procrastinating with my reading right now.

its not my fault if the letter of a scarlet hue is boring and written in another language.

i went for a run today... about 4.75 miles. (by the way, i am writing this at around midnight... so when i say today, i mean friday). first three were non-stop, then took a small break. golly, i miss runner's high! jenny was such a trooper and rode a bike next to me the whole time. kudos jenny!

then i played tennis... three sets. first set was a power set...every body hit as hard as they could. oh, and my partner had a dirty mouth... i really cant stand it! then the last two were placement sets. i worked on aiming and less power.

all in all, today was good.

well, off to read... hopfully

to the beach and back!

yesterday was a fun day. my friend jenny and i went on a bike ride to the beach. boy, the weather was BEAUTIFUL. the sun was out and the temperature wasn't too hot(maybe thats just because i got back from 110 degree weather, but oh well). the beach was awesome. we didn't actually go on the beach, but it looked awesome. we walked with our bikes up the little street with all the shops and food places and checked them out. jenny bought a lemonade that she really enjoyed, and i decided to try something at this littl coffee shop. it was a chocolate latte, but the chocolate was sugar free. i decided it was worth trying. well, let me tell you this: it was crap. i have never tasted anything so nasty in my entire life. plain and simple. it was terrible. so, i asked if i could get a smoothie instead and just pay the 15 cent difference. luckily, the lady was nice and had no problem with it. then we were on our way back. the ride back is always easier.

well, as it is now august, it has hit me that school is coming soon. i have two books to read and school homework to do. thats right, i have decided to stay in the AP english class (due to the mass amounts of pressure). so, i will be taking 3 honors, and an AP while participating in 2, possibly 3, sports. what a fun year junior year will be. however, i think with block scheduling, it might work out ok.

we'll see.

behind the door of room 237

okay, i just typed out the whole post, and it got messed up and didnt post, so i am not going to be as detailed as before. but here it goes.

my two friends mieke and jenny joined me and my parents on a trip to palm desert for the weekend. we left at 9 pm, and as we drove and got closer, we watched the temperature climb... 91, 92, 93... it was hot. we were excited to arrive to an air conditioned house. the neighbors had gone earlier in the day to turn on the AC so it would be cool by the time we arrived. when we arrived, we ran through the heat of the night (at 11:45 pm) to the door and opened it. we were welcomed by a wall of... hot air. it was hotter than it was outside. we spent some time making phone calls and trying to fix the ac, but nothing was working. at around 12:15, we surrendered and decided to book two rooms at a hotel. we were going to have a guy come out the following to fix it. so, jenny, mieke, and i got our own room, and what fun we had. a pillow fight occured, and that was fun. we stayed up oober late, but we slept well in our air conditioned room... room 237.

well, we found out this morning that the entire AC system is broken... it cant be fixed until next week. so we booked another night. it's all good though, cause we are having a lot of fun here... yup yup, lots of fun : )

mieke says:
"ffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff"

jenny says:
"nothing"

later all!

twin-telopathy

i went to the mercedes-benz cup tonight with my aunt. there was a singles and doubles match. the first was malisse vs haas (malisse won 1-6, 6-3, 6-4) and the second was the bryan bros vs... well, i dont really know who they played.

the bryan brothers... oh my beans, were they good or what?! (they were good) watching them play doubles is something else. they make it look so easy, and when i watch them, i am just constantly in awe of how bad they crush their opponents. i love seeing their energy and pumped-up-ness (i created that word) on the court. they high-5 between each point, and they are so restless. there wasn't a single moment where they weren't moving... even when they switched sides. i don't know if them being twins gives them some advantage, but they even move together really well. maybe they have some sort of twin-telopathy communication thing going on that gives them an edge... yup, i think that helps. you tennis fans can appreciate all this and relate to how awesome these bros are. you non-tennis fans, well, i don't know what you can do with this. however, i bet even non-tennis fans are truly entertained by these guys... they're grrrreat (in the words of tony the tiger).

getting sleepy now... summer's going great... i hope all your summers are too.

so, how bout them angels?

i went to an angels baseball game today... i haven't been to a baseball game in so long. as i walked to my seat, the sounds, smells, and sights became familiar and i knew i was at a baseball game: screaming children and the chatter from the entire stadium (if you pay attention to the chatter too much, you will began to go slightly crazy) along with a mix of peanut and sunflower seed shells crunching beneath my chacos (sandals) and the constant "peanuts! ice cream! cotton candy!" filled the air... you don't know it, but hearing those guys screaming "peanuts" and what-not is like being advertised to subliminally... after a while, you just have to buy something (for me, it was the peanuts).

the smell of hot dogs and the man next to you (who smells like hot dogs and a mixture of other things) is something that a baseball game cannot go without. don't forget the beer that the person behind you spilled on your foot... thats a smell that will get you some weird looks if your my age.

then their is the view: well manicured grass, smooth dirt, the players on the field, the back of the head of the person in front of you (who, with your luck, is balding with a few moles here and there)... its all a part of the experience. i love it, being there with family and a friend. it was a ton of fun :) all of this stuff is great... i seriously enjoy it.

now, on a different note, my dog is going through another one of his hiding stages again. he has been hiding under furniture again, either in the furthest corner and against the wall, or smack-dab in the middle. his main spot is the bed, but will settle for a chair every once in a while. i think it is because he has fleas right now, and thinks that hiding under furniture means hiding from the fleas and scratching. either way, it is cute and hilarious (and random).

well, i won't be posting as often since i am now home. however, whenever something worthy of osting arisis, i shall post. yup yup, i shall.

back to bellflower...

howdy all

i am home from tennis camp at pepperdine. this last week was great. i had a ton more fun than the first week, however the tennis itself was great both weeks. i did rather well in the tournament this morning. i made it to a tie breaker in my set against the really good guy. i think he was frustrated by the fact that he was being beaten by a girl. he looked to his mom when he was down 0-3 ( i had three) and said, "mom, she's a girl!" it made me feel good that i frustrated him in that way. i lost in the tie breaker, but i was very pleased with my performance.

later, we had "graduation". the team i was on (team 'spam') won team tennis for the week and we got medals that say '1st' in big block letters. then, came the surprise that actually made me really happy inside... i was also very surprised. i got camper of the week... it was really cool. i got this huge... and i mean huge.. tennis bag (tecnifibre). now, if other people are like me and get intimidated by people with large tennis bags, i could get my competition to run out of the place and forfeit the tournament just by using this bag at my tournaments. it's sweet :)

i will post a few pics from the last day. well, i am hungry. i am still on the 5:00 dinner time schedule.

bye :)

last night

well, tonight is the last night i will be spending away from home. lets see, a little recap of the day...

the day was off to a racky start. we were working on approach shots and doing drills. no one in my group of 6 was making our approach shots. we were missin gour shots on the feed. it was frustrating Per (the coach) because he couldn't do anything to make us better. we were having an off day. so, he decided that he couldn't do anything and sat down. he told me to go over and grab the basket of balls and begin feeding the others while coaching them. for some reason, once i started feeding the balls, everyone made their approach shots. about 9 out of 10 were in. Per decided that i was the new coach and he 'quit'. he said i should get the uniform that the pros wore and that i would take over the court for the rest of the day.

boy, was he not kidding. he asked me my shirt size, and, thinking he was joking, i said small. He leaves and returns 5 minutes later with a shirt. he told me to go put it on. i asked if he was joking two times, but he insisted. so i did. and then i was in charge of the next roataion for about 10 minutes... hey, i got the drill started and everything. i got to leave though because a coach was sick so my backup needed to fill in for her, and i couldn't be alone.

i got to keep the shirt... and a nice shirt it is.

my word, it is SO hot in my dorm... i am sweating, and nothing is capable of cooling me off right now.

our suite won the talent show... what fun.

well, off to prepare for the tournament tomorrow. i got the worst draw possible. i am playing some 17 year old guy who has been playing for a long time... i will try to kick his toosh around the court, but we will see :)

raindrops, the number three, and deer

haha, i know i would never do that again, but hey, i did... got a problem? :)

so, we went to the beach today... boy was it hot. i think i am three shades darker just from today. i took a nice nap, but forgot to get rid of my handprint, so it still lives on.

i also have a big surprise to tell you all... i, cristina nicole stavro, am getting married... haha, once again, i dont know why i said it, but it felt right. anyway, now that my parents are just about dead, here is what i really meant to say: i ate 3 HUGE pieces of pizza.. and they were good. that was our only choice and i was hungry

so, now to the deer. on my way back from the courts tonight (twas only me and two others) we took a different route back. we were walking and talking, and then i saw what looked like a huge dog... i freaked out and the huge 'dog' just stared at me. turned out, twas a deer. only about 10 feet way. it was cool

so, i better be off.

see ya

not much going on here

nothing exciting happened today. normal drills and matches, except i did play a set against one of the counselors. i lost 3-6 but it was fun. definately a good set for me.

we watched the original Willy Wonka today. i still get goosebumps when charlie finds the golden ticket.. it is just so... touching.

since not much happened, i will leave it short. later!

give em a chance!

no, the title does not have a typo... i'm not asking for a chance for me... i am asking it for the team that was crushed by mine in ultimate frisbee. boy, that was an awesome game. let me fill you guys in.

they discovered early in the game that i could play. maybe the incident that occured a week ago was burned in their heads. it was soo much fun. not only was i passed to, but other campers too. it was incredible. i caught sooo many awesome passes. i would be halfway down the field, and they would just launch it towards the endzone... i chased it down everytime. i even caught all the shanks. ton of fun. i had a kid who caught the frisbee and immediately called out "cristina" to pass it to me but had no idea where in the world i was. he figured he could just throw it and i would be there... kids, so cute :)

here's something i must share: we played bingo tonight, and the counselors said "do not clear your papers! we are going to play blackout!" then, this kid to my right makes an annoyed grunt and i look over to see all the beans (used as markers) in his hand. what i heard next made me... well, i was just caught off guard. so, he says to himself, "it's a good thing i have a photographic memory." not what i expected to hear.

good night all!

humming birds and a second chance

okay, the two non-related things that eventually become related used as a title must be getting old. i will stop doing that... maybe.

anyway, these two things actually have nothing in common except for the fact that they occur in the same day. i was in my room just looking around, and i decided to look outside. there is a tree right outside my window(the very edge of it)... it actually touches window. anyway, all of a sudden, i heard a hum... then, appears a hummingbird. it flew in place for about 15 seconds right in front of me on the other side of the window. i just stood there. i think it was staring at me. anyway, what happened next is something i have never witnessed before... it exploded.

now, the second chance thing... well, today is game night, as was last monday night... and guess what game is an option again. yup, you got it: ultimate frisbee. i am giving the guys a second chance tonight. i was going to convince every camper to not play so the counselors would be all alone and couldnt play (wait, they were capable of playing by themselves last time, right?) my judgement told me i shouldnt do that, so i have decided to give them another chance. i will let you all know how it goes tomorrow.

ok, its a good thing i didn't tell these stories in person, cause right now i am laughing so hard... i am nearly on the floor. speaking of laughing hard, i saw something discusting in the cafe today. a girl sitting about two yards in front of me at another table started laughing so hard, she had to stand up... then she threw up. no joke. that was gross.

now, here's the real joke. that humingbird... didn't explode. but it did do something i have never seen done before. now, most of you have probably seen it, but it meant a lot to me. the hummingbird actually stopped and sat on the branch facing me... it stopped flying. i have only seen hummingbirds flying. it was really neat. it sat there for two minutes, and i just stared. something about it sitting still just put me in a state of peace and amazement. had i not seen it flying a minute before, i would not have recognized it as a humming bird. it was really cool.

the mental image of a hummingbird flying in front of you for 15 seconds and then just exploding is actually quite funny.. thats what made me laugh so hard. well, i am off to ultimate frisbee in a bit. i will write tomorrow of my ultimate adventures in frisbee land.

:)

my big brother

doesn't my bro look good in a suit... he's in japan right now. i hear a lot of people there stare at him. :)

welcome to tennis camp: part two

not much was done today. however, i did get to work out in the gym today, and that was really nice. I really feel that i am in some good shape from this tennis camp. i am eating well (pretty healthy choices here, believe it or not) working hard, and taking my vitamins :) so after the gym, i just hung around and what not. around two o' clock people started coming for camp and week 2 began. i met my new room mates (from kansas)... it's gonna be interesting.

then the day proceeded like my first day here last sunday. it's a little more fun this time so far because i know the counselors better. my mum and pop came over after i ate dinner and they stayed a while. that was a lot of fun.

i am excited for the next week... 5 more days!

see ya :)

phone calls and bathroom breaks

today is my day off. this morning, i woke up and had breakfast at the cafeteria. when i got back, i pretty much just hung out and waited for my aunt.

i went out to lunch with my aunt in malibu. we were walking to our table and i heard a familiar voice... i turned and immediately knew the source... i knew that our governator's voice is un mistakeable. yup, our governator was sitting two tables away with his family and some others. that was pretty cool. as we eat, someone else comes and sits down at the table behind us: mathew perry. he was there with two others. about 10 minutes after his arrival, he went down the hall to take a phone call... i passed him on my way to the bathroom (very casually i might add).

after, we and my aunt walked around the place to check out the shops and stuff. we also saw some actress that used to be on 'ER'. after our walk, we had a slice of chocolate mousse cake... yummy. we stopped by a news stand on the way back to pepperdine and got a few magazines then sat and read them.

so, so far the day has gone well. now, what do i do with the rest of my day???

see ya!

one weeke down, one to go

well, today was the last day of camp for everyone but me and annother girl. i signed up for a second week, and decided to just stay over the weekednd at the dorms. so, after 3:45, everyone was gone. it was so quiet.... it was so nice.

today, we had a tournament all day (till 2:00). there were 6 brackets, and mine was the green bracket. well, i won my bracket! it was totally awesome. i feel such a huge improvement in my game after this week. i felt more comfortable and less nervous, so i wasn't taking a bunch of safety-slice shots. so, i got a trophy (it's pretty cool looking).

then i went to the mall with two of the counselors... with meaning they i was in the same car as them. the whole time, i walked around on my own. it was actually rather boring... i didn't want to go too far cause i thought i would never find them if i did. so what i did, was walk back and forth between two mall directories, which were about 40 yards apart, and then stopped in a few stores: the disney store, sam goody (i got wow:hits 2005), and the book store. i broke down and bought a few cookies at Mrs.Fields cookies (white chocolate macadamia).

i came back and did nothing pretty much... read my magazines, and hung out. i did go for a 3 mile run on the track right by the dorms. i was planning on just one, but i felt good so kept on going. it was nice :) well, i am off! see ya

minority report

well, today went well. we did some double drills today and my game is really pulling together. my new grip on my serve is really working out and i am becoming a lot more relaxed when i play. i am excited to see the improvement a week from now

i learned other new things this night as well. i had a chance to talk with one of the leaders who is egyptian and a muslim. there is a lot more to the story, but i am too tired to retell the entire story. i will say this though: i did learn a lot, and i realized more about my faith as well. veiwpoints on lifestyles and how life goes are very similar. you know how muslims wear a veil... well, its not that their religion forces them to, it's for them to hide their beauty and save it for their husband. it protects them. it shows respect for self. christians are also supposed to save themselves for their husband, and our veil is a little more spiritual, yet why can't it be more physical as well? some people need to cover up... seriously.

for a christian, forgiveness comes from Jesus dying on the cross, and us accepting that fact. for some, this is a hard thing to do. in the muslim faith, you start to be held acountable for your wrong doings once your period begins (for girls) and a tally is started. then, once you make a pilgrimage to mecca, your slate is erased. As christians, we need to make that voyage to God, and ask Him to forgive us. We need to see it as something that we must work at. the hard part was done for us already... our sins are cleared by the blood, yet all we need to do is drop our pride, step up, and ask.

i normally don't speak much on these topics, but i thought i would share a piece of mind. i saw connections, and made me want to be stronger in my faith.

so, guess i didnt talk much of tennis. o well. hope summers are a blast for you!

repeat tanning accident

we did drills this morning, as usual, but then after lunch we went to the beach... zuma beach to be specific. well, anyway, i am not one normally to go in the ocean, so i didn't. I decided to take a nap and to tan a bit (for once, i actually did put some sun screen on... mum, you would be proud, i even put it on my ears.) i wasn't wearing a bathing suit, but i rolled my sleeves and shorts a bit so that whatever lines did occur, wouldn't be visible when i wore my normal clothes. so, as soon as we got there, i was out. for some reason, when i am warm and in the sun, i can sleep forever. so i did. about an hour to be exact. I woke up, looked at my legs, and saw that they were tanner... mission accomplished.

when we got back to the dorms, i needed to wash up. so i went to change, and then i saw my stomach. anyone remember about a year and two months ago? i took a nap at palm desert and resulted with a hand print on my stomach... well, can we say 'deja vouz'? yup yup, i have a handprint on my stomach. i don't know how my hand got there or how my stomach was showing, but it was. yes, we can all laugh now. go for it.

that's all that went on today. i am becoming quite tanner, and it is quite nice. did i mention that when i fell asleep, my sunglasses were on? i will leave that up to your imagination.

see ya!
