the two new tools for spreading the good word!
actually, maybe more like the two new tools for awesome conversation starters with an old couple.
at golden spoon, there is a table that no one really sits at, it in the back by the water fountain that gets me everytime i try to drink out of it. as i walked in and the welcome waa-waaaa made it's noise, an old lady (not the same nice little old lady that i conversed with at my ap test) who sat with her old man husband at the back table quickly and loudly asked, "calvin college... now, where is that college?" i was proudly sporting my new calvin college sweatshirt that arrived on friday (that's what the picture of me and the UPS man is from on friday's post). "grand rapids, Michigan."
"oh wow, so do you go there?"
"no not yet, but next school year, yes" (of course i said this with a HUGE grin)
"oh wow..."
so thus the conversation started and i let about five other people ahead of me as i sat and talked with this old lady and old man in the back of golden spoon. they asked what calvin was known for, if i was ready for the cold, how i knew about calvin, why i chose calvin, if i was a native californian, and then we talked about where she was from (ohio) and how the one thing she misses the most is the trees... she talked of how she absolutely loved the trees. and i chimed in about how there is too much cement here... me and her started gangin up on the city together, and her husband chuckled as we shared why we prefered the other part of the country.
i quickly ordered my golden spoon, but before i had the chance to walk off and pay, they started talking to me about house church... so as my golden spoon patiently waited (and kind of melted) they quickly started another conversation. i had mentioned house church briefly while talking about why calvin. so they were curious about house church and wanted to hear about it. so that conversation went on for a bit, and then it came time for the good bye. this old lady from ohio told me that when i saw the trees in autumn turning gold, think of the old lady i met in golden spoon who missed all the trees and take a moment to enjoy them for her.
so i shall...
