neener neener neener

just thought i would point that out to y'all.
hmm... pretty normal day today. there were things i wanted to talk about here, but i forgot it.
oh.
no i didn't.
i just want to point something out that i learned today in my communications and culture class.
have any of you heard of "second life"? if you haven't, i want to let you know what it is and that it proves technology and this whole idea of "being who/what ever you want to be" has gone way too far. "second life" is basically this virtual land where you create and avatar (virtual being) as whatever or whoever you want to be. you can communicate with people all over the place, interact in all sorts of things, and buy accesories, clothes, vacations, properties, and whatever you imagine for your avatar.
now, when i say buy, i mean exchanging realy US currency for second life's currency, the linden dollar. that's right... truly seriously purchasing all that stuff i said above, with real money. all that stuff, which is all virtual, stuff to go with your avatar, stuff that isn't real... with real money.
a lady has already claimed to be the first second life millionaire from buying and selling property... making a real million dollars off of fake virtual property.
you can buy a cell phone for the sake of having an accessory for your avatar so other avatars will think you are cool.
hotels have anounced the building of hotels in this virtual world so they could get the public's response for this new hotel design. one of the hotels got cold feet in the middle of construction and backed out of it, and cancelled the project. a bunch of people/avatars were angry because they had spring break plans and money down to stay there (yes, in this virtual world) so the avatars went up and bombed the hotel (at least the part of hotel that had been in construction.
reebok sued second life in a real court because reebok had exclusive rights to the footwear sold (for real money) in this fake virtual world, but the avatars started creating their own knock-off shoes.
so now adidas has exclusive rights.
does anyone else see how ridiculous this is?!?!
i could go on and on and on, but i will stop here. i just wanted to share that.
also.
for davenport fans... there is a cute and fun article in the latest tennis magazine about tennis and motherhood...i know the former, not the latter. i love davenport.
sorry about the second life rant... i just couldn't help it.
