SNULTIMATE!

so lately, i have been kind of getting sick of the whole interim schedule. my two biggest issues with interim and the weather this past week were this:
1. there ain't that much to do... so we end up staying inside and doing nothing a lot of the time... and by nothing, i of course mean watch tv.
2. there wasn't really much snow this past week, so there wasn't anything fun to do outside... whether it be sledding or just messing around in the snow.
today was different though... both of my grievances with interim were cast aside and made right... first, we got pounded with snow yesterday and all through the night... leaving a nice couple inch layer of snow all over the place. and second, a group of nine of us from the ultimate team got together for a good ol' game of snultimate. that's right: snultimate. snow ultimate. we headed out to the "track" and "soccer field"... which you see in the picture is actually just a big open field of snow.
i forgot to mention how cold it was. according to weather.com, it was "10 degrees, feels like minus 7." minus??? minus??? it can go minus? :) yes, it was freezing cold. anyway, the snow on the field was all nice and smooth, not walked on... a good 5 inches of snow out there. but once we got there, we ran all over it, diving, sliding, and jumpong around on it... good stuff.

we had a nice bright orange disc... making the disc much easier to see, especially during the little bit that it was snowing so hard with the wind blowing, making it nearly impossible to keep your eyes open for more than 5 seconds at a time.

we kind of weren't supposed to be there, but oh well.

so i just have to tell you my layers in preperation for the cold and windy chill factor. on my head, i've got a turtle fur head band, beanie. top layers consist of: under armor, thermal, tshirt, windproof north face fleec thing, orange puffy vest, glove liners. bottoms consist of: long underwear, knee high socks, warm-ups, snow boots. i was content... i must say, i am kind of pro at this layering thing. the only cold parts... my face, and my hands.

we look kind of weird in this pic, because we were laughing at how we couldn't feel our faces at all... making it impossible to tell if we were smiling or not... and talking felt super wierd. basically, it was like my entire face was feeling the effects of novicane. not a good time to have a runny nose :)

after we got an actual game started, it only took about 10 minutes before i was actually really warm... no more numb fingers or toes... completely content out there in what ended up being 7 degree weather. yay, my first single digit experience!
fun aspects of playing in the snow... you're running full speed, catch the disc, put the brakes on, and slide for about 4 feet. so much fun.

it was absolutely gorgeous out there while we were playing... the clouds, the sun, the snow... just so amazing when it all comes together. and you can see the difference in the snow between where we played and where we didn't... ya, we did a lot of running around :)

i must say, we were pretty exhausted after a good hour and a half of snultimate. coming back inside was hilarious too. i don't think i regained full feeling in my face until about 20 minutes of being indoors.
so, that's it for now... i've got to work at the basketball game in a little bit. there's a group going ice skating tonight, but of course, due to my past experiences on ice, i have vowed to never ice skate again... lets just say this... wrong skates, falling, face on ice, blood on ice, almost loosing my front two permanent teeth. plus, if i ever do go ice skating again, it would have to be with jenny who has probably asked me to go about 147 times in the past two years.
have a wonderful weekend everyone!
